Corporate social responsibility
ORIMA Research is committed to corporate social responsibility. A tangible expression of this commitment is our practice of conducting pro-bono/free of charge work for not-for-profit organisations up to a pre-determined spend each year.
We support our employees in their volunteering activities and encourage their participation. We are also in the process of developing a formal corporate volunteering policy to expand the volunteering program for our staff. Our efforts in this area have resulted in ORIMA being selected by Volunteering Australia to appear as a case study in their new publication, Employee Volunteering: A Guide for Small to Medium Sized Enterprises, funded by the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership.
In addition, we have a corporate sponsorship budget that is used to support local community organisations.
Case studies
Case study #1 – DIRECTIONS ACT
DIRECTIONS ACT assists people who use alcohol and/or other drugs to access knowledge and health services relevant to their needs. It also assists in improving access to health services by finding ways to reach out to those in our community, and their families, whose lives are affected by alcohol and/or other drugs.
DIRECTIONS ACT required a user-friendly database of health services and information that could easily be accessed by staff when working with clients. ORIMA Research consolidated service provider information from various sources to produce a comprehensive database of existing services and developed a search tool to enable relevant services to be located quickly and easily.
Case study #2 – Bosom Buddies
Founded in 1995, Bosom Buddies is a group of women in Canberra and the local ACT Region who have experienced breast cancer personally, or through loved ones. They support each other and help individuals who are newly diagnosed through active support and by providing personal role models for the cancer journey.
Bosom Buddies required feedback about members’ awareness and perceptions of their services. ORIMA Research developed a questionnaire for a Bosom Buddies membership survey focusing on awareness of services, ratings of services, overall satisfaction, and the needs/wants for future services to support them through their cancer experience.
Case study #3 – Legacy
Legacy was founded to care for the widows and dependants of Australian War Veterans. This responsibility extends to dependants who suffer from disabilities and may remain dependant upon their war widow mothers beyond childhood and well into later life.
Legacy required more detailed information on the disabled dependants in Legacy’s care from which assessments could be made of future workloads, programmes and commitments.
ORIMA Research conducted a survey of disabled dependants and their carers to gauge their awareness of Legacy’s services, identify their specific needs at the time and for services into the future.
